"...a fellowship in a cry of players..."
(Hamlet III; ii - Shakespeare)
The Homer Shakespearean Society was founded in 1957 by longtime Homer High School English Teacher, Mr. William S. (Bill) Whiting. For 65 years and counting, this “fellowship in a cry of players” has instilled a deep and abiding love for theatrical artistry among generations of Homer students. Homer is one of few school districts in the United States to annually perform a full Shakespearean production.
The Homer Shakespearean & Thespian Society values and celebrates diversity of all kinds. Encouraging diversity of participation is a central goal of the organization. The Homer Shakespearean & Thespian Society actively encourages all students to participate in its productions as actors or crew members. All students who audition are considered equally in an inclusive environment and in accordance with Homer Shakespearean & Thespian Society casting principles. The Homer Shakespearean & Thespian Society hopes to be a reflection not only of the varied backgrounds of Homer Central School District students, faculty, and staff, but also of diverse world cultures, life experiences, and theatrical traditions. By carefully selecting a range of shows each year, we strive to tell theatrical stories that represent the richness of our world while offering a wide range of opportunities and artistic growth for our students.
